On Saturday, I went with Bryan, Brandi and Toby to see Aimee Mann at the Riviera. I had heard very little of Aimee Mann and nothing of hers had really impressed me that much. I went to the show with a completely open mind and was really impressed. I've now asked Bryan to make a compilation cd of Aimee Mann stuff for me. She has a new convert. :) I was a bit irritated when the security people at the Riv wouldn't let me in with my camera. They told me that I would have to take it back to my car or get rid of it, like I would get rid of a digital camera. So Bryan and I walked five blocks back to my car - thank goodness, I'd driven that night and we hadn't all decided to take the train.
I'm still reading My Name is Asher Lev by Chaim Potok. I'm about 40 pages from finishing it. I'm reading it for a book group that Bryan has at the library. I'm also still reading Sugar Blues by William Dufty. Karla, the macrobiotics food lady that I take cooking classes with, recommended this book and now both Bryan and I are reading it. We've both tried very hard to not eat things with refined sugar in them. I had no idea that even Campbell's soup and bread had refined sugar. I haven't had anything with refined sugar in about three weeks and even then it was sugar that was in soup that I ate while I was sick and before I was so conscious of what foods refined sugar is in. I'm sure that everyone thinks, "oh yeah, but refined sugar isn't that bad for you." Read this book, it is bad for you and eat no sugar for a week and you'll say, "wow, there is a difference." My mood swings are almost non-existant and I just feel so much better about what I'm eating. I don't even have cravings. The last time I had chocolate was October 12 and I don't even miss it. This coming from a girl who loved chocolate and couldn't get enough of the M&Ms at work each day for a long time. I've been working on eating macrobiotically for about six months and even when I'm a part-timer with macrobiotics I feel so good. We've totally gotten away from the idea that what we eat effects who we are not just physically but also mentally. Do you feel down and sluggish after eating at McDonald's or eating something with a lot of cheese? If so, then you get what I mean. Good food makes you feel good. I always thought that some people just got being healthy and others didn't, but it's actually kind of true, it's not difficult being healthy, it's a choice and a state of mind, you just have to be ready for it.
That's it for tonight. I don't want to rave too much. I have another cooking class with Karla tomorrow night at Whole Foods! Then there is another one in a week and then two in December! Yeah, lots of great winter recipes!
